Additionally, we've listen to you guys about HTML in posts. We still believe that most of the people coming to blogging *don't* want to edit HTML but we understand that after years of being on the web, many of our users can't help but type an "href" time to time. So now when you enter HTML, Vox asks you if you'd like to translate it.
Thank crikey for that.
<p>You know what would be great?</p>
<p>The ability to use HTML when posting to Vox.</p>
<p>Maybe it's changed since I last used it, in which case <a href="http://google.com">this link</a> will work, and <strong>this text will be bold</strong>?</p>
There are Vox invites available for MetaFilter members via this thread on MetaTalk, which could mean an influx of people I 'know' here. (I suspect Vox is only any use if a lot of friends and acquaintances are using it too.)
I've just added a few folk to my 'neighbourhood' (cloying metaphor, that) - one is someone I actually know a bit in the real life, others are people who keep weblogs I read, others I have exhanged one or two emails with.
I wonder if this is how one is supposed to behave here? Should I stick to genuine friends and acquaintances, or gather people whose posts here I'm probably going to want to read, or both?
It's the usual problem with social networkish sites: how does one avoid looking like a stalker? (The only places I've never had this problem are Flickr and MySpace, since everyone I know uses one or the other, and both are obviously suited to contacting strangers.)
Perhaps Vox needs a more XFN- or FOAF-like set of options to define relationships between contacts, or just a way of tagging contacts? Eep, I'll shut up now before I don a lab coat and start stuttering about structured weblogging and microformats...
I don't know why I compulsively sign up with every new weblogging service that hits the virtual streets, but I do.
Vox seems awfully slick--adding a profile picture from my Flickr account was a nice surprise, and the interface in general is very well thought out--but it doesn't offer anything beyond my current combination of weblog, Flickr account, del.icio.us account, &c.. Except, presumably, a social element (it remains to be seen if anyone I know well enough to add as a 'neighbour' is using the service yet).
So, if you happen upon this page, you're probably best off heading for Submit Response.
Update: after looking around a little more, I get it. Vox is MySpace for grownups.
